No offense to any of the other artists in that stacked freshmen class of 2009 but I think Chester French is the most talented of the pack. Two Harvard grads with guitars and an album that brings back that old Beatles sound. Pre-Recession these guys would've went gold or better which is a big accomplishment because the music isn't as commercial as their first single would lead you to believe and their debut album was actually the same one they recorded while they were in college. My personal favorites on the album include; C'mon (On My Own), String Interlude & Sleep.

If you've been keeping up with them like I have then you know that they are very interactive with their fans on their blog (The Shakira - She Wolf cover is hilarious) and are in prime position to really make a big statement with the next album, for now buy the new album, download the mix-tape, catch em on tour with Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Weezer, visit http://www.ChesterFrench.com and enjoy their biggest commercial hit to date;

On posts about mental health disorders, at the bottom of the post I'll refer to where it is specifically listed or generically referred to in the DSM-IV-TR, the manual used to diagnose mental disorders.

Folie à Deux or Shared Psychotic Disorder is a delusion that develops in an individual who is in a close relationship with another person that already has a Psychotic Disorder with substantial delusions. The second person will then share some or all of the delusional beliefs of the first person. Clinicians have to exclude other Psychotic Disorders (i.e. Schizophrenia), any Mood Disorders (i.e. Depression), substance abuse or any medical condition (i.e. head injury) that may cause the shared delusions before diagnosing someone with Folie à Deux. It is extremely rare.

1) Folie à Deux is French for "madness of two." It is pronounced (fuh lee a doo).

2) The first person is referred to as the "inducer" or the primary case that "transmits" the delusional belief to the second person. The most common diagnosis for the primary case is Schizophrenia.

3) Over time the views have changed. While the second person was often expected to be female, the more recent view is that it affects males and females equally. The second person was often thought to be younger but the inducer has an equal chance of being younger.

4) If the relationship with the primary case is interrupted, the second person's delusional beliefs can diminish or disappear although separation alone is not sufficient. Medication as well as separation is used for treatment purposes. It is very dependent on the relational connection. Thus, it is often chronic because it occurs in long term relationships that are resistant to change. The incidence of Folie à Deux is more common in sisters than brothers, assuming that they live together, and more common in common-law/married couples than in siblings.

5) There are 4 subtypes of Folie à Deux. a) Folie Imposée - delusions of a psychotic person is transferred to a person with a sound mind. b) Folie Simultanée - simultaneous appearance of psychosis in two intimately involved individuals. c) Folie Communiqée - the second person develops psychosis even after being separated from the inducer. d) Folie Induite - new delusions develop in the second person who is still under the influence of the inducer.

6) I read a case where a healthy individual facilitated the inducing of delusional thoughts into a second person while not sharing those delusional beliefs themselves. In this case, the mother supported the daughter's delusions that she shared with her brother.

7) Folie à Deux is also the title of an album from the rock band Fall Out Boy. There is a winery in Napa called Folie à Deux with Folie à Deux/Ménage à Trois wine sections on their site. The next time I am in California, I'd like to check them out.

First a story:

Last night some friends and I ended up at a Denny's because a.) somewhere deep inside us may be some serious self-loathing that compels us to put horrible food in our body, and b.) I hadn't had diarrhea in a while so why not?  Anyway, Denny's now has what they call a Rockstar Menu where these horrible musicians endorse a certain menu item because they are whores with no standards.

Marketing targeted to young generations trying to be cool is an obsession of mine and I couldn't put the menu down.  There was the Hooburrito which is the Hoobastank burrito, the Plain White T's Plain White Milkshake, and worst of all Taking Back Sunday's Taking Back Bacon Burger Fries.

I had Katy Perry's Hot N Cold Shake and I didn't like it.

Not only is it a complete, utter failure on the marketer's part but it's also not even creative on a marketing standpoint when it came to naming the food items, Hooburrito aside.  Why couldn't it be a Taking Back Sundae?  So, as we sat there over the next hour we came up with some food items of our own, for future Denny's reference.  Some are ok, some are terrible, some are brilliant:

Nicklebacon Lettuce & Tomato
T.I.'s P.B.J.
Beefy Brittany Melt
Interpolish Sausage
Staidwich topped with John Mayernaise
Coldshakeplay
Rhianna Split
Arcade Firey Chili
Jason Mrazarella Sticks

Yes, we're awesome.  We could never come up for one for Fall Out Boy, though.

I have no segue, and this has nothing to do with anything but I chose today's song because my peer DJ Strnge used a Placebo cover on his blog (I prefer this version) and also because I bought the underrated, little known 80's classic The Chocolate War today.  In addition to this song which is used in the closing credits there are tracks by Yazoo & Peter Gabriel.  If you haven't seen it, see it now.
