So the day had finally come when I tried my first Feather razor blade. After some bragging by a work friend about how good they were I had to try them out. I hoped onto my trusty one-stop-shop for all shave products Men's Biz and ordered myself a 5 pack of Feather Double Edge Safety Razor Blades, Personna Red Pack Israeli Blades and Treet Platinum Double Edge Blades.

Reading around on the Internet some time ago I always knew the Feathers were the best of the best. Everyone raved about their incredible sharpness but also about their very unforgiving nature. Unlike other blades like the Merkur and the Derby they wont give you a second chance if you stuff up. I've nicked myself a couple of times with the Merkur blades and even the slightest nick is a pretty good cut when compared to the normal cartridge razor.

Tonight after a nice sauna and spa session I decided to try my new Feather razor blades. I had around a weeks worth of facial hair but I didn't bother to trim it to make it easier for the blade. I wanted to test it out and make sure it's not only good for everyday use but also for the longer untrimmed facial hair. As the razor slid down my cheek for the first time I knew this was going to be a great shave. I was a little nervous at first but that all went away as the Feather blade did its magic. It shaved a weeks worth of growth like it was a days worth. The Merkur didn't even come close in sharpness. There was a however a slight difference between the two blades... it was the fact that the Feathers are so sharp and shave so close that it actually takes a tiny layer of your skin making your face feel vulnerable and a little chilly.

The entire shave took me less than 10 minutes start to finish. It was a perfect shave with the least amount of effort. For those of you who know how good it is to use a double edge safety razor the Feathers should definitely be your choice of blade.

What: Feather Double Edge Safety Razor Blades
Where: Men's Biz
How much: 5 Pack ($3.85) and 100 Pack ($58.95)

Thanks

We might not always understand what a dog is trying to tell us when they bark but sometimes their face alone can say it all. This weimaraner is obviously not amused by his fellow companion's manners or subsequent odor. Thank goodness smell-o-vision has not been invented!

"Jim Mc Dowell, who calls himself “the Black Potter,” believes himself to be the only black potter who creates face jugs based on both his family traditions and his sacred ancestral tradition of using face jugs as grave markers. He’s been a studio potter for over 30 years and has been creating face jugs for nearly 25.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Jim is a great-great-great-great nephew of a woman named Evangeline, a village slave potter in Jamaica; a great-grandson of a tombstone maker from Gaffney, South Carolina; and a son of a self-taught artist, James T. McDowell, Sr., Jim came of age in Washington, D.C, during the struggles for Civil Rights. A severe hearing loss gave him trouble in school so he left to join the Job Corps and later began working in the coal mines of Kentucky. A Viet Nam Era-vet stationed in Ansbach, Germany. Jim began to pray during difficult times and deepened his spiritual relationship with God. He changed his thoughts about killing and when he told this to his commanding officers, they assigned him to operate the craft shop on base."

(And here I was thinking I was the only one!!)

Amazing presentation by Paul Debevec demonstrating the technology behind digitally constructing a human face. Photographers take note on how the lighting on the face was used here.

Using a face-scanning sphere with 156 white LED's to light her face to ensure perfect lighting. They used polarizers to block the specular light reflected off of her face.

They turned the polarizers to get the specular light to show the texture of the face (skin pores and muscles...etc.) to create the mold/map of the face which is used to make animating the face as real as possible

The system used in that presentation is called Light Stage 5. You can see another demo here of Light Stage 6 here
