Days like today when it's snowing in the Tri-Cities, render solar chargers useless. Some solar chargers are dual mode and will retain their charge so that they can charge your device whenever you'd need it without being dependent upon the sun. Check out this write up about RAYvolution brand chargers: http://bit.ly/6gs4qy or check out the SOLIO brand at Sprint on East Stone Dr in Kingsport, TN next to Applebees. No matter what where you fall on climate change issues, it's an undeniable truth that polar bears are not surviving the loss of their sea ice habitat. A fact I'm reminded of each time I see this ill-conceived image - so far, one billboard plus these London Underground platform posters.

To the creative/s who came up with this marketing campaign - great job. These are the best global warming propaganda posters I've seen yet.

I want to use today's blog as an opportunity to give props to a musician who is doing so much good for society in so many ways, yet it goes unnoticed to damn near everyone.  Jason Mraz's life revolves around doing what is right for the environment and the people of this world.  Well, it revolves around music too of course, he is a outstanding musician for those who do know know of him..  Just two days ago he took a  24 hour vow of silence in order to acknowledge the millions of oppressed children around the world who have no rights, therefor no voice to save  them.  Interesting.  He is currently on a plastic free tour, where no plastic will be used by him or any of his crew.  Mraz is setting great examples for the rest of us each and every day, he is dedicated in really making this place better, so those  the future can enjoy the same luxuries we do.

To learn more about Mraz and his eco-friendly lifestyle, including a daily journal(that I read), CLICK HERE

This subject brings up a "Secret" that I came across in a morning grog about a month ago.  It read "Nature gives up everything that we could ever need in order to live and be happy, yet it never asks for anything in return.  Now that is true giving."  I admit sometimes I read over some of the"Secrets" and don't take them in as much as I should, but this one really stuck out, and made an impression on me.  We have to treat this place we live with care, I thought to myself.  It won't be around forever, but the better we sustain it, the longer it will stay kickin'.

Take the trees, or the lake that you swim in during the summertime, shit anything really just look around you, there there are so many great things that we all, including myself, take for granted and never really think about.  Until NOW!  Since the "Secret" and reading about Mraz's small acts of greatness, I have really been thinking about my actions and how they will ultimately effect the environment.  If you know me, you know I always used to leave the water on when I brushed my teeth and all that.  I know there are a lot more of you "water runners" out there. I know I am not alone.  Lately, I have really been conscious about things like that.  Now I turn the water off! ha and continue to do many other small acts to protect this place.

This finally brings me back to Jason Mraz.  The tactics he continues to practice are just small scale, but the effects of them can go a long ways.  Meaning if we all just do something small, nothing to complex at all, it will have BIG effects on a global scale that will keep this earth, that gives and gives, beautiful. So Go Green! Why not right? It feels good to know that you are doing something for the better for the environment and the people of the world.  I feels better to look around and really appreciate what you see and to be thankful for all of it.

Here is a list of little things you can do to contribute:
-Turn lights off when not using.
-Save as much shower water as possible.
-Pick up any noticeable trash and toss it.
-Try out a hybrid if you thinking about buying.
-Keep beaches and oceans clean
-Recycle
-Wear dirty underwear.(jk)

There are not many here, I did not want to overwhelm, but try to check out a few of them if you can.  Trust me, it is an awesome feeling to really be thankful and appreciative for the greatness around us. (Neat Mraz song I attached)

One Love, Tim

It doesn’t only look beautiful and it will make Jon Ive and Steve Jobs wet, but this naked Coca-Cola can would help save energy while reducing air and water pollution. Would it really make a difference? Let’s do some maths:

I assume the consumption only increases through time, but let’s take the daily 2007 numbers from Global INForM Cases Sales database, the total number of Coca-Cola cans sold per worldwide is 67,873,309. Diet Coke and Coke Zero sold 35,387,241, while MyCoke sold 103,260,550. Yes, that’s all per day.

So taking only the classic Coca-Cola, that’s 24,773,757,785 every year. Twenty-four billion cans. That is indeed a lot of paint and paint removal products. Because this doesn’t only affect the production. It also affects the recycling, which will eliminate a step:

The naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in its colouring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate toxic colour paint from aluminium in recycling process. Huge amount of energy and paint required to manufacture coloured cans will be saved. Instead of toxic paint, manufacturers process aluminium with a pressing machine that indicates brand identity on surface.

Sounds good to me, and it even looks better if you take into account all kinds of Coke. That brings up the number to 75,380,201,500 cans. I don’t know how much paint that represents, but I’m guessing quite a few thousand tons. [7760 via Likecool, Sales info from Let's Get Together]

This has to be one of the best redesigns to a classic product that I've seen in some time. The classic Coke can has always been an icon and this redesign will be a major change... but a beautiful one nonetheless.

I love the embossed look they've produced... very 2020 :)

Thanks

sustainable design, green design, waste reductiondasani, bottled water, coke, pet

Nearly 1.6 billion servings of Coca-Cola-branded beverages are served each day. Now some of them will be just a little bit greener now that Coke has announced the global rollout of its PlantBottle, a plastic bottle made from a blend of petroleum-based materials and 30% plant based materials (derived from sugar cane and molasses). The new bottles stand to cut down on carbon emissions by up to 25% compared to traditional PET bottles.

The PlantBottle has a number of advantages over PET bottles and other plant-based bottles. In addition to its carbon cutting qualities, it can be processed through existing recycling facilities without contaminating petroleum-based bottles, and most importantly, it raises awareness of the need for more eco-friendly plastic bottles.

There’s just one problem: Coke is rolling out the PlantBottle for its Dasani brand of water. As avid readers of Inhabitat know, bottled water is anything but sustainable. Still, it’s a start, and Coke expects over 2 billion PlantBottles to have sold worldwide by the end of 2010. Next year, the company plans to expand the PlantBottle to its vitamin water brands as well. And eventually, Coke hopes to introduce bottles made from 100% recyclable and renewable materials.

Sunday November 15th is America Recycles Day!

From Waste Recycling News - Nov 13th, 2009
The 12th annual America Recycles Day -- and the first entrusted to the care of Keep America Beautiful -- will be held Sunday.

America Recycles Day is aimed at encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products.

Volunteer America Recycles Day coordinators throughout the country will organize recycling awareness events in their schools and communities.

Held each Nov. 15, millions of people are expected to participate in the event and learn about the importance of daily recycling and buying recycled products.

According to Keep America Beautiful, the purpose of America Recycles Day is to continue to promote the social, environmental and economic benefits of recycling and encourage more people to join the movement toward creating a better natural environment.

According to the U.S. EPA, the average American discards about 4.6 pounds of trash. The government estimates 33% of this solid waste is recycled or composted; 15% is burned at combustion facilities; and the rest is sent to landfills.

Paper plates recycled into a festive tree inside Anthropologie store.  I think Scotty Claus would be very proud (www.livingchristmas.com). Looks beautiful!

I'm far too old for one of these brilliant treehouse beds that are bringing back memories of wonderful adventures in trees. I love the slanted ladder with the rope attachment and it's an eco friendly buy as it's made from replenishable Scandinavian pine, plus there's a 4 hook coat rack and a den underneath, plus a desk attachment. It'll set you back £1321 though.
