Matteo Pericoli's new book, The City Out My Window: 63 Views on New York, has 63 drawings of unique city views of New York City of what city residents see when they look out of their window.

The book shows what people like Tom Wolfe, Tony Kushner, Nora Ephron, Stephen Colbert, Richard Meier, Oliver Sacks, David Byrne, and other writers and artists see from their window.

There is text on the left page and the right page contains a sketch drawn by Mr. Pericoli.

Mr. Pericoli has a collection of his drawings on his website where you can see the quality of his work. To view more sketches, visit Mr. Pericoli's website for the book.

Full disclosure: I used to own a record label. That label, Luaka Bop, still exists, though I'm no longer involved in running it. My last record came out through Nonesuch, a subsidiary of the Warner Music Group empire. I have also released music through indie labels like Thrill Jockey, and I have pressed up CDs and sold them on tour. I tour every few years, and I don't see it as simply a loss leader for CD sales. So I have seen this business from both sides. I've made money, and I've been ripped off. I've had creative freedom, and I've been pressured to make hits. I have dealt with diva behavior from crazy musicians, and I have seen genius records by wonderful artists get completely ignored. I love music. I always will. It saved my life, and I bet I'm not the only one who can say that.

Watch this cool video of him riding on the West Side bikepath in Manhattan. It's a place we spend a lot of time on and echo his sentiments of riding. He talks about bike-friendly cities and also suggests NYC puts the West side Highway underground " if you want to keep the damn highway". Nice!

If you've seen David Byrne on his recent worldwide tour, you'll know what a fantastic performance it was. The band were very tight and funky as hell. The modern dancers and company of backing singers really made a full sound. Take this professionally recorded performance of Houses In Motion from a French television show. You get to see the full stage show, the dancer's interactions (including Byrne at times!) the brilliant keyboard work and the luscious bass work.

There were only three songs performed on this show, so there isn't much to see apart from audience recordings. But this was one of the best songs from the shows, so where better to start?

There is less than a week left to see the Roundhouse mic’d up to an organ as a part of David Byrne's installation 'Playing the Building'. The installation converts the main hall of the roundhouse (easily one of my favourite venues in London by the way) into a giant instrument by attached a series of wires to the pipes, walls and balconies that make up the room. When someone gets up to play - you are filled with as sense of anticipation and excitement as the building creaks and groans.

The last day to check it out is August 31st, so make sure you get over there this weekend!
