phishing-scamBe on the lookout for a current spate of phishing tactics spreading on Facebook via the chat feature.

The attack employs similar methods to those used by past scams, using hijacked user accounts to send chat messages with a generic message and a link to a familiar-looking Facebook phishing page. Of course, if you actually click the link and enter your details on the fake Facebook login page, the hackers steal your e-mail and password and direct you on to the real Facebook.

Once your account has been compromised, hackers use it to perpetuate the scam by spamming your friends in chat. Automated bots handle the heavy lifting of pestering your contacts. At least one of the messages comes in the format “ROFL this you?!” with a phishing link, but this particular vulnerability may take other forms, so be sure to use caution when receiving any remotely suspicious chat messages from your Facebook contacts.

Facebook typically aggressively pursues phishing scams like this one, so hopefully it won’t be plaguing users for too much longer. Until then, please use caution when using chat. Have you spotted any variants of this scam?

I want to let you people know of a great board that is somewhat similar to HikiCulture; the board is called A Lonely Life.

I don't think that the people at ALonelyLife are quite as reclusive as the people on HikiCulture, but it's still a pretty similar board.

Just spotted that in http://www.chromeextensions.org/ are available 2 new extensions for Google Crome - Facebook Chat and Gtalk Chat . And in the light of ChromeOS this is fantastic features. I hope so that before Chrome OS is out already Goole Chrome to have the panel functionality already. With panels chat inside the browser will be amazing. I already abandon desktop clients for chat with using of imo.im but i'm happy to use chats in extentions

To all of you people out there who are still using a clunky old Java IRC chat-box on your site - I urge you to switch to QwebIRC.

QwebIRC uses Ajax, is light on resources, is open-source and can easily be embedded on your website.

Check QwebIRC out here:

The dream: Free SMS-like chat with your iPhone peeps.

The fulfilment:

1. Get WhatsApp.

2. Watch WhatsApp automatically find other WhatsApp users in your
Contacts.

2.1. (Make sure your contacts' phone numbers are present.)

3. Click on your WhatsApp-enabled friends' names to instant-message
them for free!

This beats Ping! because:

1. It's free. Ping! isn't, though the Lite version is (but it's ad-
supported).
2. You don't have to create and publicise another username. WhatsApp
uses your phone number.
3. Autodiscovery is the killer feature. You don't have to publish that
you're on WhatsApp. Any user with your number will find out
automatically.

Go get WhatsApp from the App Store now! Go, go! (Especially if you're
an iPhone-toting friend of mine!)
