So after last weekend's trip to Chicago and three university days in London, Ontario, I'll be going to Ottawa tomorrow. Not by car, though - it's Greyhound again. I made a map of some things I might want to see, mostly just as an orientation of where to go in the city. Right now, I don't know where I'll be staying - it's not clear whether the couchsurfer we contacted in Ottawa is willing to let more people stay at her place for 2 nights... if it doesn't work out I will have to look for a hostel.

Tomorrow I'll rent a car and go to Ottawa over the weekend with a few friends. This might just be a second sleepless weekend in a row, but I'm really looking forward to it. We'll be on the road 6-7 hours and have to arrive on friday before 8am - otherwise we won't have a place to sleep.
Originally, we planne to go to Montréal, but since Ottawa is closer and the stay will be less hard on our money, we decided to visit Canada's capital. I wonder what the German embassy looks like...

The Practice of Everyday Design is a Canadian partnership focusing on art, product design and architecture which seeks design opportunities from the merging of seemingly irreconcilable ideas. Their piece The Mobile Office is constructed of materials discarded within a one block radius of the installation's site. The layout maximises space while allowing for flexibility.

Spatial and material maximisation is commonly seen in informal economies at the base of the pyramid. Yesterday I watched a garland maker peacefully proceed with his craft from a miniscule work environment below the stall which sold his products alongside small goods.

This is my first post, and I am tipsy. I shouldn't be tipsy. I have a law paper due tomorrow afternoon and a math test Wednesday night that I have yet to start studying for. It's 3:56 am but fuck it. To be honest, I've never been much of a wine guy, but I'm starting now. I hear it's good for my heart.

Sonora Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon... I'm not going to lie I bought this wine because it was cheap and it came with a free wine glass, which I promptly smashed. For the first time in my life, I set out to the liquor store because I had a craving for wine. I had no intentions of getting drunk or partying, I just wanted some wine. Coincidentally, the first post of this blog also coincides with the first day of my alcoholism and the first day of my "grown-up" wine drinking life. Some might call this the beginning of the end.

Isn't it weird how the words coincidental and coincide mean completely different things... Fuckin eh.

Anyway the wine itself is a little underwhelming. A little sweet but nothing crazy. I would say it's fairly fruity but fuck what do I know, I'm a wine rookie. The wine doesn't really strike me as very extreme in any particular direction... Perhaps some food other than cheese and rice crackers might bring out some hidden flavor I'm not noticing right now.

Anyway, I'm out... I'll catch you motherfuckers next time.

Pies TorontoThe best pies in Toronto are scattered across the city. Nothing store bought about them either. All the pies offered by the 11 bakeries that made this list are fresh baked daily and all use local ingredients when available. So, while there might be plenty of calories on that pecan or lemon meringue, at least you can feel good about cutting into a pie that supports local farmers.
