I found some bugs in Polygon while working on my next App, So a new
version has been uploaded and should be available end of next week.

My new App is not really a new App but a cut down version of Polygon
with only 5 seven letter words in it.  So really there are only 5 main puzzles that because you can switch the central letter on for each result in about 30 puzzles.

This is a taster App and hopefully people
will upgrade to the full version.

Bugs, bugs, bugs

Software bugs are annoying so I fixed some more.

  • Repeatedly uploading files would not work in Internet Explorer. This was a caching issue.
  • Don’t log file names during download. Nobody seemed to care about this bug but it was easy to fix for the next version of media.io.

Time for tests!

It’s no secret I love testing. I’m a bad designer and a bad copywriter, but I don’t have to be good because I can let my users tell me what they like. In the next days, I’ll start another multivariate test that should answer some of my questions regarding button and help text placement.

Survey

I would like to find out how you use media.io and I have created a short survey. If you have 30 seconds, please take the survey. Thank you!

New upload layout

I mentioned that people are occasionally uploading files but never converting them. In response to that, I’ve completely redesigned the file upload. You can see it in the screenshot below. Soon, when you convert audio at media.io, it’ll be painfully obvious how much data you’ve already uploaded.

As I noted the other day, I've started on version 1.1 and have added some fixes and enhancements. I've fixed the problem with the Chapter Summary. The Finished date and Percentage Complete is now correct:

I've added a progress indicator to backup and restore:

I've added the ability to enter the target word count directly in addition to using the slider (for both the novel and individual chapters). This allows you to be more precise in the word count. Before:

After (note the difference in the Target Word Count: field area.)

I now allow you to reorder the novels and chapters. In 1.0 they were fixed, so now you can move novels and chapters around in the lists. This is useful if, as I, you are working on one thing more frequently than another. I've move my NaNoWriMo novel to the top of my list. There are some "behind the scenes" things going on as well. I've added code to be able to update the internal database to make it simpler to add new features. So when you upgrade from 1.0 to 1.1 your database will be upgraded automatially behind the scenes. I still need to do a bunch of testing with this to make sure I don't lose any writing. Once I'm satisfied I'm going to reword the toolbars at the top. Right now there are two. I'm going to replace this with a single one. This will give you a bit more screen space and make it easier to navigate overall. I plan on smoothing out the flow as well. This will be a major change internally, but will make things simpler overall. I'll also have to update all the screenshots and documentation on the web as well.

Once the new toolbar is in place, I'll start working on the first new major feature. More on what this is, in the next blog update.

Still no fix is evident.

While we all wait, I just want to let you know there are a couple of changes to the website. First I have added a Known Issues page that lists all known issues and bugs with the app (along with the current status of a fix.). This is the page to check to see if a problem is a known one.

Second, I've updated the Future Plans page to include information on what will definitely be in the next release. I will update this section as I fix bugs and add features. This will be things you will definitely see in the next version.

Both of these pages are under Support.

Having said that, I got antsy waiting and have started work on the next update (check the Future Plans page). This will be version 1.1 and will include a major new feature and be free to all who have bought 1.0. As I mentioned I would be making major new features as in- app purchasable options. However, I thought it would be appropriate to thank all of you in some way. A major new feature seems appropriate. I'll be announcing it once I have it working and posting screen shots.

My first priority however is fixing bugs, simplifying the flow and providing for voice notes as promised.

No, there is no timefrane. It will take as long as it takes, but expect it in the next couple of months.

Thanks again!
