This one's for Google, took me a while to find the solution—and at that it's a bit messy... but it works. Hat tip to Danny for seeding this thought.

I watch loads of videos online (see my learning tag on delicious for resources), it takes up time—too much time. I want to playback videos faster, specifically videos on YouTube & Vimeo... Flash videos... FLVs...

Quicktime has a playback speed feature, if you've not found it yet: Window → Show A/V Controls (on topic, pitch shifting & bass/treble controls are useful!). Quicktime does play Flash video in Snow Leopard, if you're on Leopard you'll need to install Perian.

You just need to find the FLV file from YouTube, Vimeo, or another to open in Quicktime. The http://clipnabber.com bookmarklet solved this for me (click & drag this link to your bookmark bar: Nab it!) giving you the FLV and where available a MP4 video as well. Like I said, a bit messy but works.

Is RSS dead in the age of the stream? Not for me. I still use Google Reader a lot. It's how I keep ahead. And while I still believe RSS won't catch on with the mainstream it's still a very important technology to watch. Emerging services like PubSubHubbub will help RSS will get faster and power new real-time services.

If you use RSS chances are you're a news junkie. One of my favorite complementary services is Instapaper, which allows you to save articles for future reading on any mobile device.

Over the weekend Marco Arment posted a killer update to the code that makes it easy to bookmark any article in Google Reader directly off the desktop and/or mobile version. This works faster and better than other solutions. Not only does this save a news item for future reading but Instapaper will also follow the link to the original source too and cache it. You can learn more here.

Matt recently turned me on to the Pandora music service. Very cool - check it out if you haven't. I always like to use their mini-player, but I wanted to be able to just bookmark that and have the mini player open. So, I created a bookmarklet for it. Drag the link below to your bookmark toolbar (in Flock or Firefox; other browsers use the appropriate mechanism). Now, whenever you click that link, it'll open a new window with the Pandora mini player.
