This post has been brewing for quite some time now. I have been musing about what's keeping people from feeling more bliss in their life. Is it lack of love? Of compassion? I do believe that is a big reason, but there is another aspect. Just now in the bath I realized what that aspect is. It's dissatisfaction.

People aren't satisfied with their life, with their jobs, with the economy, with a lot of other things, and they go through life feelingĀ  out of sorts. Some people take it out on others, you can see that on the world's motorways every single day. Here are some simple tips/steps you can follow to feel more satisfaction with your life.

Step 1
Be aware
Imagine someone walking up to you. The corners of his mouth are turned down, his hands are deep in his pocket, he walks with his shoulders forward. Is this someone whom you would greet with a smile? Or is this someone whom you would walk around, afraid he would pull his fist out of his pocket and whack you over the head?
You radiate every emotion you are having, and dissatisfaction is written on everyone's face, everyone's body. With that posture you aren't very inviting to other people. Stand up straight, and welcome each and every day with a smile.

Step 2
Count your blessings
People who aren't satisfied usually focus on what they don't have, what they wish they have, the one thing that will make them happy once they have it (Of course the moment they have it, they have lost interest, and go for the next thing that will make them ecstatic).
In stead, focus on what you have. Focus on the good that is in your life, big and small. Are you healthy? Smile and be satisfied. Do you have a great meal on the table several times a day? Smile and be satisfied. Make a list of all the blessings, great and small in your life. Next time you're dissatisfied, look at that list, and remind yourself of all that's good in your life.

Step 3
Exercise daily
Every day, write a list of five things you are grateful for that day. It can be small, someone smiling at you, writing 500 words. reading something really good. Be grateful for the gifts you receive, and you will see that every moment of every day is a gift.
Also, choose one person in your life you will do something good for. It doesn't have to be something big. Even offering to get a co worker coffee, or to give someone you love a hug brightens both your day and theirs. Share more of your unique self.

I have no doubt that I will return to this topic more often. Please write in any question you might have, so I can use it for other posts.

Wow. So I made it through a month of Picture-A-Days! Sometimes, I wonder if I can keep this going but I guess therein lies the challenge. Today was a rather eventful day, in my past few days of non-eventfulness. The lover and I had a food-tasting session with a potential caterer for our wedding. We were very enthusiastic about it till we came to visit them at their HQ. Their place was housed in one of the many rooms of what looked like an old, old industrial building. My heart fell many floors. Whilst waiting outside, we saw another similar building across the road. Time seemed to have stopped still in this industrial estate. And it all felt very 1970s. Thankfully, when the doors opened, we were ushered into a classy room and served samples of a menu. The exterior definitely belied the interior. Overall, we were very pleased with what they were serving us and the coordinator was great. We should start a wedblog! Ah, I'm getting excited! :)

Today I attended a friend's music album launch. I've never attended a launch before either. She has such a beautiful, gorgeous, velveteen voice. It was a Christian album and had some deeply religious songs. But not sharing the same faith did not stop me from listening to her voice in amazement and experiencing spirituality through her songs. It was simply beautiful. Maybe because she is a beautiful person, both inside and out. We bought her CD and then later pulled a groupie on her and forced her to autograph it. :) I wish her only the best of love and life and I'm sure she's going to go places. Made her this little picture on Picnik. Wish I had brought my Canon, had to use my phone's camera instead. :|

Today was a whole day family affair. Lunch at Pizza Hut (felt like a kid again), nap time at home (felt like a kid yet again) and then dinner and late night strolling at Mustafa Centre, a huge 24hr shopping centre in Singapore. I have a strange affinity for that place. There's just everything there. Came home and almost forgot to post this up. Love, love family time. Oh, and old school neon lights ftw. :P

I'm not going to call her friend anymore. It feels weird. Let's call her S. She's more family than friend and she has been spending these past three days with me, forcing me to clear out my room. The lover was busy today and she followed me to pay the balance deposit at my bridal studio. Lovely, quaint place. After that, we had some tea and toast at an old school place. That little book is where I jot down all the wedding details. And it's a little disorganised. :) But I like it. Yay to wedding plans. We then came home and she insisted on sorting out my shoe cabinet. Threw out almost 30 pairs of shoes from eras past. I think I really love this girl. :) Ah, my life seems in order now. I'm a happy girl.

P.S. I miss the lover tremendously.

Holidays have officially started for me and right now, the only things on my agenda are occasional meetings, reading and hopefully lots of visits to the gym! Decided to take a snap of some of the books from my holiday must-reads. Featured here, Boehmer's Colonial and Postcolonial Literature, Selby's Requiem for a Dream (which for some strange reason I'm having quite some difficulty reading), Austen's Pride & Prejudice, Kafka's Complete Stories, Beavoir's The Woman Destroyed (a good friend lent it to me), Murakami's Birthday Stories and Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (of which I have read only four stories in and I'm completely dazzled) and lastly, a collection of selected poems from Pablo Neruda, Isla Negra. I have so many other books on the to-read list and yet more others on my Wish List. Too many books and way too little time. And this is probably the most hyperlinked post. :) Happy Hols & Happy Reading!

Once again, almost forgot to snap a picture. Watched New Moon with the lover at the mall. Some of the scenes were just as I imagined when I was reading the book. Not that I'm a huge Twilight fan though. Lover fell asleep halfway. ;) Movie ended at midnight and the mall was dead quiet. Snapped a picture. I like empty malls. Strangely peaceful. Even the mannequins in the shop windows have a calmer look on their faces.

Once again, almost forgot to post this up. The weekend went by in a flash and a week of mindless lectures await. Can't say I'm looking forward to it with enthusiasm but at the moment, tons of ice cream with the lover and watching episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best way to welcome the new week. Hooray!

Almost forgot to take my picture of the day today. Got home after a long while and my darling Jack Russell went nuts over me, running around, wagging his tail, hopping in excitement. It's hard to imagine he's almost ten. He's the sweetest little dog. Even on my worst days, a nuzzle from him makes everything feel perfect. He has that effect on people. :)

The only thing this picture has to do with my day today is my hairband with the big, red flower. :) It made me feel happy! The lover and I caught 2012 today at GV Max. It was really an event movie. Minimum plot with maximum fun. Had dinner at Superdogs and then headed home. The book in the background is a collection of Pablo Neruda's poems, "Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon". Shall read a few at bedtime today.
