Since at least 2006, Best Buy has eschewed any mentions of Christmas from their holiday advertising in favor of "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" because those messages are "inclusive" and "non-offensive." In other words, those messages are not Christian.

If that's their position for all religious holidays, I accept that. What I don't accept is hypocrisy. Check out their Thanksgiving advertisement today. Notice anything unusual or "offensive" near the bottom?

Best Buy is dead to me. If I could return the 50 inch plasma TV that I purchased earlier this year, I would do it in a heartbeat.

"The retailer got some flak this week for including, along with its circular advertising Thanksgiving Day sales, a note saying "Happy Eid Al-Adha," which refers to a holiday of sacrifice for followers of Islam on Nov. 27 this year. After TechCrunch ran an item about the circular, some claimed offense and said they'd take their business elsewhere. "I spent about $3,000 with . . . your store. I will be shopping somewhere else," one consumer wrote on Best Buy's Web forum. "BB has the Muslims covered with the 'Happy Eid,' but what about the rest of us Americans?" wrote another. "Do we get a 'Happy Thanksgiving?'"

We just bought some new PCs at Best Buy for some incoming employees and I've been getting nice and cozy with Windows 7. It's not the train wreck that Vista was but it's far from good. I'll be "downgrading" these PCs to Windows XP pretty soon, which by the way, was a superb OS. Why can't Microsoft just make an OS with the good UI elements of XP minus all the underlying crap that made it unsecure and unstable? Or maybe Microsoft should just build a theme in Windows 7 for us XP fans...

Best Buy has a store brand called Insignia that includes a full line of products that run a wide range of offerings from GPS to home theater gear. A new Insignia product has tipped up that allows parents to keep an eye on children and could be used by employers to keep an eye on workers as well called the Insignia Little Buddy.

Lately, we’re developing more and more  real-time web experiences for both our clients and ourselves. Project such as Brammo’s Shocking Barack, Best Buy’s Twelpforce, VW’s Twitter banners, Microsoft’s The PC Hook-up Show, Alex Bogusky and John Winsor’s Baked-in live and interactive Q&A session, and our new agency site, all utilize real-time interactive technologies and platforms to power their concepts. Working in this space has been an exciting process for us as it’s still mostly an unchartered and experimental area for brands and agencies alike. There’s still a ton to learn and lots of opportunity left to surprise, service, and entertain audiences, based on the freshness of the content platforms. I’m not too sure where it’s all headed, but it’s certainly an exhilarating time to be doing what we do.

Our latest real-time project and experiment is BK finds the Truth About Tony, which aired online yesterday, and features NASCAR star, Tony Stewart, hooked up to a polygraph machine for 50 minutes, answering mostly user-generated questions to prove to the internet that he truly loves the Whopper. The show’s pretty entertaining. I particularly enjoy the “did you have a childhood blanket” question and response. Definitely check it out for yourself.
