Bike Film Festival started today.
'Bumped' into a lovely person on monday while attending the Avaaz.org climate change wake up call in parliament square. She enquired of me the meaning behind bikespotters.com printed on my t-shirt as she was interested in meeting up with other people in the bike world. Only recently arrived from Madrid she was still finding her way around and I was able to help her with information and a conversation developed that was really wide reaching in content and depth. The basis of which was our collective concern for the planet and our people on it.
We spoke of many events and places where bike people gathered and shared their common interest, one being this months Critical Mass meeting on friday.
With the promise of accompanying her to the event we exchanged details. Since then ,what with dealing with other matters it would appear the better choice of event for her and others would be to follow the BFF activities this week. Much to do and see. Very likely that is where bikespotters.com will be. Check it out.

AVAAZ.ORG is circulating a petition to protest against the Pope's recent comments about condoms and HIV/AIDS in Africa.

Please sign the petition and spread the message.

Since the Pope's recent comments regarding condoms making the HIV/AIDS crisis worse in Africa, it's disappointing that only France, Germany and Belgium have been the only countries to speak out against him. The U.N has as well, but I was hoping for more widespread condemnation.

Pope Benedict should leave his archaic, ignorant, and grossly irresponsible dogmas back in the vatican where they belong. For too long, the catholic church has been causing so much damage to this issue in Africa which has cost countless lives. Benedict should put on a condom and save Africa from his seeds of ignorance. The German MP likened Benedict's comments to that of 'pre-mediated murder", and I couldn't agree more.

Ignorance spreads faster than a virus.

Pope claims condoms could make African AIDS crisis worse.

Ignorance is this...[video interview]

As a response to the Pope's comments, here is the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS [UNAIDS], UNFPA, and WHO's position statement:
