Katelyn says...

If you know anything about me, you already know that I've been on this environmental kick lately.  I've also been super obsessed with crocheting.  Today both of my obsessions merged together.

I am now the proud owner of Bamboo Yarn.

Bamboo is a popular knitting/crocheting choice because of bamboo's rapid rate of growth and its ability to replenish itself.  Green Options says: synthetic yarns are also bad for the earth, since they are made from petroleum. Vegans object to using wool, and, although great for many heirloom projects, are just not as sustainable as some of the newer options. Industrially-produced cotton brings with it a slew of environmental problems, including water and soil pollution.

Reasons To Use Bamboo Yarn:
  • eco-friendly
  • soft, silky texture (compared to silk or cashmere)
  • perfect for light garments
  • naturally antibacterial
  • naturally non-allergenic

Other "Green" Yarns:
  • organic cotton
  • soy yarn
  • corn yarn
  • shirmp and crab shell fiber yarn
  • hemp yarn
  • soy silk fiber (created from byproducts of tofu production)
