THIS is what I was expecting of Trapeze when I first heard the premise and now that it finally delivered I’m very satisfied.
This episode presents Junichi Hoshiyama (Toriyama), a writer of romance novels with OCD that manifest as vomiting. I found him quite relatable, he is a writer that fears failure so much that he is willing to sacrifice his art in exchange for success, and that’s come back to bite him. After his first novel failed (relatively, it sold well, but not as much as he wanted) he wrote a bland romance that launched him to fame, so he kept writing the same novel with different setting. Now he obsesses trying to avoid repeating the setting and that causes him to vomit. The solution for his problem was for him to understand this, be honest with himself and try to write a novel he likes.
This time Dr. Irabu, and Junichi’s friend, were necessary for him to remember why he became a writer and that he should enjoy what he writes.
Mayumi-chan was more than wallpaper this time: first she ignored his romance books, depriving him of the satisfaction that those books are well liked; and then expressing (and for the first time showing emotions) that his first book, Tomorrow, was the first book that made her cry.
The animation felt appropriate, intend of obstructive, like it did last episode. I liked the Toriyama = chicken head gimmick. I wonder if they did that kind of thing in the past two episodes and I just didn’t notice.
Next episode: a baseball player with the Yips, Jason will be all over this, I bet.
Just when I thought Toyosaki Aki’s voice was the peak of Uihara’s cuteness we get her animated in loli form. I couldn’t resist the urge to pet the screen when she couldn’t even do one sit-up.
JC. Staff did a good job inserting the flash-back into current events. In the manga this was introduced just as a special chapter, here they fit it as the key to solve a quarrel between Kuroko and Uihara. However, I didn’t like how they closed the episode; they made up, yes, but the two of them running together to find a couple of criminals? They were supposed to understand that they have to rely on others and not jump straight into danger.
Overall it was a very good episode with some action and bounding between two girls, and as I’ve said that’s always welcome.
Next episode: they animate chapter 2 of the manga. Also, looks like Railgun will be 24 episodes long, so the Misaka Imouto storyline will get animated, therefore I’m more than happy.
サザエさん第一話
So it seems that Suou became a contractor only partially; now she’s quite and restrained, although she still makes illogical decisions. I’m very happy with this change; her previous loudness annoyed me to no end so seeing her with that I-don’t-care look on her face was relieving.
The ramen induced tummy ache was funny, but still out of place in a Darker Than Black where the detectives aren’t around.
Misaki got more screen time this episode, and that’s always a good thing. She’s probably going to be instrumental in bringing together the story that right now is still all over the place.
2 years have gone by since the Tokio Explosion and the world is coming to understand the existence of contractors, most still think they are just a rumor, but more and more pop up everywhere.
The main character this time is Suou Pavlichenko. One of the reasons I liked the first season was the lack of a self-righteous I must not kill main character nut now we have Suou who is as stereotypical as it can get.
The first half of the first episode is a view into her life and the second is that life going to hell thanks to various factions looking to take the Meteor Core.
Hei makes his entrance looking like a rugged hobo, but still bad ass. Something happened during the last 2 years (apparently explained in the Shikkoku no Hana manga) and now Yin is missing and Hei is an alcoholic. Mao’s cat body gets killed in ep 1 so he takes the body of a squirrel, which I found weirdly appropriate.
Suou’s twin brother Shion is the new Amber, and despite appearing only briefly I found him very annoying, almost as much as his sister.
At the start of ep 3 Hei losses his contractor powers due to some force field and the Meteor Core, but I’m sure he’ll get them back. In the same episode Suou has a nervous breakdown; the Meteor Core activates giving her contractor-like powers, probably similar to Hei’s, manifested as a anti-tank rifle with limitless ammunition. I’m hopping that it was a rifle simply because that was what she saw recently, and she can in fact manifest better weapons/powers.
The secondary characters are too many to count; my favorite being the Japanese team.
The pace felt very different, and not just because they ditched the two episode format. The forth episode is the point at witch most anime start showing the main conflicts, so I have high hopes for next episode.
Before I forget it, the music, while catching, was entirely out of place, especially that electronic tune that played during the battle at the train station.
