"As soon as somebody tells you who God is - mistrust them!"

True.

I, for one, don't believe in religion. Because it is man-made. God? Well, I simply don't know. What I do know for sure is that nobody can tell me what he/she/it is like.

This is the trailer for the documentary "Oh My God". The film asks many different people, from all over the world, “what is God?”. With most different thought-provoking results. Should be interesting to watch once it's out.

Until then, watch Bill Maher's "Religulous", if you haven't already seen it!

The Dean says...

There will only be peace in the Middle East when both Jews and Muslims are prepared to compromise their religions just a little bit. After all, no one really executes Sabbath-violators, as the Bible commands.
Which begs the question: Does Allah/God prefer compromise for the sake of world peace, or dogmatic killing in His name?

But in order to acknowledge someone else's different beliefs, you first have to get comfortable with not being right. We all have a POWERFUL need to be right about our beliefs. Which makes others wrong.

In relationships as much as beliefs.

This urge comes from the sense of fear and insecurity that lies within us all. Instinctively. For we are mortal, and compete for our survival.

It was Man that put the blinders on Horse — though it is Man afflicted with tunnel-vision.

We need a renaissance in thinking, a renaissance in seeing that our inner Animal is still in control. Even in the little ways.
Perhaps then we will get off our high horse and EVOLVE.

"If Islam really treated women with honor, we would see the positive consequences of that honor over the course of the past 14 centuries. Islam did not treat women with honor. On the contrary, it has distorted the concept of honor." (Dr Wafa Sultan)

"My brother Rashid, I can call this pen a knife for 14 centuries, but it will never become a knife. It will remain a pen. Islam has turned these concepts upside-down, and has forced its followers to see things as their opposites to view killing and beheading as an act of tolerance, to view taking a woman captive as an act of compassion, to view the plundering of spoils of war as their right, and to view masturbation against a little girls thighs as marriage." (ibid)

"Thus, it has destroyed the intellectual structure of the Arabic-speaking nation, and has produced people who cannot distinguish between things and their opposites people with distorted thinking and warped mentality, as infertile as barren land, which cannot yield a thing." (ibid)

"The year 1979 was the turning point of my life. I was a medical student at the University of Aleppo in Syria. At that time, the Brotherhood of Islam committed very bloody and ugly crimes against innocent Syrian people in the name of their God. I witnessed the killing of my professor, a great human being who had nothing to do with the government. They filled his body with hundreds of bullets before my eyes while screaming Allah is great. At that moment I was traumatized. I had just lost trust in their God and started to question his teachings. This event was the turning point that has led me to the present point." (ibid)

* Quotes by Dr. Wafa Sultan, author and well known a critic of Islam. Dr. Sultan is leading a struggle to create a new reality in the Islamic world, which she believes should be led by none other than the women it has oppressed for so long. Born in Syria and now a Los Angeles-based psychiatrist. In 2006 Wafa Sultan was named in Time Magazine in a list of 100 influential people in the world "whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world. There is a religious FATWA against Dr. Sultan calling for her death. (also see http://IsraelNN.com)
