I ask once again, why us? Today we, the rainforest group have gotten into quite another predicament. After trying manually to exterminate the insects we then tried to lower the temperature. It worked, but then we accidentally raised the temperature back twenty more degrees than normal. After some…unsavory words from other group members, it is now our fault to help correct this.

Some of the species are being infected. Cold-blooded creatures in the grasslands are apparently going past their level of tolerance. The desert group are the ones most complaining. They’re saying that plants are dying, animals are dying, and that the desert is turning into the grassland. I find that hard to believe, but it is obvious that something might be done. In our own biome, the rainforest is affecting the dawn bat, and even the chimpanzees.  The Linn’s sloth is said to have gone mad with overheating, and if we not correct this soon we’ll be doomed.

As for me, I dislike the heat. Always have. With another the extra degrees it’s starting to feel like a normal day at California at 90 degrees. It’s not that I can’t stand  it, I’ve lived there my whole life, it’s just that I prefer the cold more. Until next time!

The horizon with its blue glow seemed to tell the lie that the sea would go on until the ends of the earth.
And my fingers they are blisters
and my eyes they are bullet holes
            my heart is still beating
            guess i'm pretty lucky

I would actually say that the biggest challenge of the last few days would not be surviving harsh conditions, but posting an audio file. I kid, I kid, but for the last several hours I have been trying in vain to post something in this blog, so alas, I am resorting to the inferior text version. Anyway, as you might have been reading by my comrades entries’ the biosphere is full of insects. Where are the insects coming from? I’ll allow you to guess if you don’t know. Done guess? Yes, the Rainforest, the same Biome that my group and I are sanctioned to take care of.

I kid you not; the rainforest was not like this on day 1. I remember there being insects on day 1, but what we have now is ridiculous. It’s as though they’re in every nook and cranny of wherever you go. Yes, it makes for good biodiversity, but the trophic levels are going to be so messed up that everything will end up worthless. Just last night I was sleeping and a feisty praying mantis woke me up, scaring the living bejeesus out of me, mind you.

I hypothesize that this is happening because we put too many insects in the first place. Because of this they’re mass reproducing and creating more insects exponentially. This makes bad news for me, because I hate insects with every fiber of my body. Tomorrow, my fellow rainforest group members and I are going to do  a bit of exterminating. A lot rests on us, if the insects keep going the way they are then it might destroy the entire nature of biosphere 3. I hope that won’t happen.

OMG, Adam received a letter today informing him that he was selected as a finalist in this year's Duke's Ukes ukulele contest.  He is one of 5 finalists in his age group (11-15 years old).  His teacher, Jody Kamisato, did a great job preparing him.  Thanks Jody!

I hope you will join us at Duke's Waikiki on Saturday, October 3rd to see Adam compete.  Jody tells us that part of the judging is based on audience enthusiasm so we need you!  If you don't live in Hawaii, now you've got a great reason to visit. :)

You can view Adam's audition video here: http://lulumama.posterous.com/dukes-ukes

Click on the Duke's Ukes link above for more details about the October 3rd event.
