Much to my delight my company recently switched mobile providers. I say "much to my delight" for a number of reasons, but perhaps the number one reason is that our new provider (Rogers) has a much better selection of BlackBerrys. So it was with great happiness that I said goodbye to the 8830 that I've been using for some time and hello to the BlackBerry Curve 8900.

Man, is this thing sweet. Not only is it lighter and smaller than the 8830, but the mobile browsing experience is roughly 800 times better than with the 8830.
It's pretty funny to think back to my very first 'berry - the 957.

In those days, the company I was with had not yet deployed BlackBerrys to staff, but I got one from RIM due to some work I had done with them. So to use it, I had to have a separate email address (I think it was myname@myblackberry.com) and set an auto-forward rule in Outlook so that I'd receive emails when I was out of the office. Of course, I couldn't reply to them or the replies would come from my @myblackberry address, which in those days would have been too confusing. Additionally, the 957 was a data only device - voice capabilities had yet to be added to handhelds.
Compare that to my 8900, where I can do the usual email/ phone thing while out of the office, but I can also take pictures, take video, check my Gmail account, listen to music, check the weather, keep on top of the NHL playoffs (thanks to the Hockey News App), keep on top of stock quotes (thanks to the Boomberg app), use Google Maps & Latitude to not get lost and track where my friends are - among other activities. I also discovered a program this week called MediaSync which will let me sync my iTunes playlists on my iMac with my 'berry, which means that I really have no reason to bring my iPod touch on the road with me. Come to think of it, if I could get the Apple Remote app on my 'berry (which will never happen of course), I'd really have no use for my iPod touch anymore - and those are words I never thought I'd type.
